Special Congratulations to Howard Law Alumna and member of the Howard Law Board of Visitors Mr. James Carter!
On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Howard University School of Law Alumna, James Carter was elected Vice President of the National Bar Association. He is a 1997 graduate of HUSL and an Adjunct Professor who since 2017 teaches a course he created specifically for HUSL students titled “Developing a High-End Civil Trial Practice.” Mr. Carter also serve on HUSL Board of Visitors.
Mr. Carter is the Managing Partner of The Cochran Firm-Trials & Mass Torts and serve on its national board of directors. A former New Orleans City Councilman who was elected to serve on the first city council seated after Hurricane Katrina and first African American to serve as Criminal Justice Commissioner in New Orleans’ history, he is the immediate past chair of the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors and presently serve as one of seven commissioners on the globally significant Port of New Orleans.
In 2019 Mr. Carter received an Honorary Doctorate from Grambling State University and in 2022 received an Honorary Doctorate for the University of New Orleans.
