Fifty State Lead Scorecard Project

The Howard University School of Law Environmental and Climate Justice Center has released the Fifty State Lead Scorecard Project, a comprehensive national assessment of state-level policies on lead poisoning prevention. Spearheaded by Professor Carlton Waterhouse and developed in partnership with Howard Law students in the Environmental Justice Research and Advocacy Course, the Lead Scorecard Project provides an accessible overview of how each state works to safeguard its residents from the dangers of lead exposure.

With the goal of equipping the public with information about their state’s lead prevention policies and how they compare nationwide, the scorecard will be available online at law.howard.edu.

“The Lead Scorecard Project reflects the Howard University School of Law’s commitment to addressing issues that impact vulnerable members of our community" said Dean Roger A. Fairfax, Jr.

The Lead Scorecard Project stands as a vital tool for public officials, community advocates, corporate stakeholders, and families seeking to understand and improve lead safety efforts. Most importantly, it underscores the urgent need for stronger, targeted policies that protect the health and future of children across the nation.
