21st Annual Wiley A. Branton Symposium

We are excited to announce the topic for our 21st Annual Wiley A. Branton Symposium: "The 21st Century Social Engineer: Crafting the Future of the 14th Amendment." Through three panels and a keynote address, the Symposium will explore the roles and responsibilities of social engineers in crafting the future of the 14th Amendment by acknowledging the disenfranchisement of people of color and building toward sociopolitical equality. We hope to foster a thought-provoking dialogue where legal scholars can investigate the effects of 14th Amendment jurisprudence and precedents while simultaneously posing re-imaginations for an equitable, socially-engineered future under the 14th Amendment’s command. Additional details to come, however, for now, please mark your calendars for October 3, 2024!

Lecture Series Speakers, and Symposia

Howard University School of Law hosts a series of lectures each year which honor the name and legacy of a past deans Charles Hamilton Houston, James M. Nabrit Jr., C. Clyde Ferguson Jr., and Wiley A. Branton. Each of these deans served the law school during a critical era in history and all left a significant impression not only on the Howard University community but on the legal profession worldwide. The students, faculty, administration, and staff of the law school work together each year to find topics relevant to the current legal climate, particularly in areas of social justice, civil rights, human rights, and voting rights.
