Hawkins’ lecture will be on the future of human rights advocacy in the United States.
Before joining Amnesty International, Hawkins was executive director of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and led a campaign to abolish the death penalty for juvenile crimes.
He also worked for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, representing African American men in the South who were facing the death penalty.
The lecture will be held in the Moot Court Room of Howard University School of Law beginning at 4:00pm.
A reception will follow the lecture.
