In February 2001, Professor Rhea Ballard-Thrower was appointed to the law faculty and named Director of the Law Library. Professor Ballard-Thrower, who holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Michigan, previously served as Associate Director at the Georgia State University Law Library in Atlanta, Georgia and as Reference Librarian at the Tarlton Law Library at the University of Texas-Austin. During her career as a law librarian, Professor Ballard has been a legal bibliography instructor, conference presenter, author of many articles on law librarianship and an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries.
Professor Ballard-Thrower’s goals are simple: to lead a well-run library that supports the law school community, and to make sure the law library is a vital partner in the law school’s and the university’s social missions. Professor Ballard-Thrower will focus on securing the library’s future as a premier research facility in the Washington DC metropolitan area and beyond.
