Job Fairs for Law Students and Alumni

Job fairs are a great opportunity to meet a large number of employers, many that intend to hire.  Below is a list of job fairs for law students (scroll down for more detailed descriptions of each).  Please note that this list is not meant to be exhaustive and dates and deadlines for fairs can change.  Be sure to check the websites of each fair (hyperlinked herein) to confirm dates and deadlines, as well as whether you meet the requirements to participate.  Registration and interview bidding are required well in advance of the fairs. Bay Area Diversity Career Fair

Description: The Diversity Career Fair brings together prominent law firms, government legal departments, and nonprofits in the San Francisco Bay Area with highly qualified diverse rising secondyear law students. The participating students come from distinguished local law schools, as well as other top schools from around the nation to interview for coveted positions in summer associate programs. 

 

 

Underwritten by Orrick and sponsored by BASF, the Bay Area Diversity Career Fair provides a much needed event for employers in the Bay Area, as well as diverse law students across the country, who previously had to travel great distances for job fairs that targeted minority candidates. In addition to the interviews, the fair also provides students with networking and educational opportunities. A welcome reception for registered students and employers takes place the night before the interviews, and a breakfast panel the morning of the fair features diverse lawyers from a variety of practice areas.

Description:  The Delaware Minority Job Fair Committee of the Delaware State Bar Association encourages you to apply for an invitation to participate in the 2016 Delaware Minority Job Fair for Second- and Third-Year Law Students, which will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016at Widener University Delaware Law School (Wilmington, Delaware campus). The Job Fair was founded by a consortium of Delaware law firm, corporate, and public sector/interest legal employers interested in promoting diversity and inclusion in the Delaware bar. This year's Job Fair currently includes 18 employers from both the private and public sectors.

The Job Fair, an invitation-only event, is limited to students interested in summer or full-time employment opportunities in Delaware who will be in their second or third year of law school during the 2016-17 academic year. Students pre-selected by two or more employers will receive an invitation to attend the Job Fair by early July and be asked to accept or decline their interview invitations by mid-July. Invited students must make their own arrangements to travel to Wilmington, Delaware to attend the Job Fair. As funds permit, the Job Fair plans to reimburse reasonable, documented student travel expenses. If sufficient funds are not available to cover all expenses, students will be reimbursed on a percentage basis.

Description: DuPont Legal organized its first Minority Job Fair in 1994, to assist our PLFs with their minority recruitment efforts. Today, it’s a successful multi-city event, bringing in more than 500 resumes from minority law students around the country who interview with DuPont PLFs. The Minority Job Fair has earned DuPont Legal the National Association for Legal Placement’s Mark of Distinction Award.

Description: The Equal Justice Works annual Conference and Career Fair is the largest national public interest legal career fair in the country.  More than 1,200 students from 165 law schools attend for two days of interviews, workshops, networking and other career opportunities.  Public interest employers conduct interviews for internship and full-time positions and meet with students in informal “table talk” settings to discuss public interest legal opportunities.  The Conference and Career Fair also features workshops on various public interest careers and job search advice, resume and cover letter review, mock interviews, and more.

The HNBA Career Fair is open to all law students.

Description: Are you passionate about starting your career in a Midwestern city that has both cosmopolitan style and small-town charm? Looking to meet legal employers from large, medium and small firms, as well as government agencies, corporations and members of the judiciary? Get a jump start on creating lasting relationships at the 2016 IndyBar Diversity Job Fair.  Employers will be hiring clerks or interns, not offering permanent placement; they will expect to interview 2Ls or those graduating spring 2017/2018 based on full or part-time status.

A $2500 scholarship will be presented to three interviewing students. Scholarship applications

(available online) must be received no later than Monday, July 15, 2016.

 Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair

Description: The National LGBT Bar Association’s annual Lavender Law® Career Fair is designed to achieve a sense of community and inclusion for LGBT candidates within the legal profession’s recruiting efforts. By participating in this career fair, candidates will talk directly to LGBT-friendly recruiters from law firms, government agencies, LGBT rights groups, and corporate legal departments.  No bidding is involved.  You just register, go, and sit and interview with whomever you want.

 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program

Minnesota Minority Recruitment Conference

Description: The Minnesota Minority Recruitment Conference (MMRC) is an annual event that connects the largest legal employers in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area with diverse 2L and 3L candidates from around the country. Each year’s conference and job fair includes between 25 and 30 employers and upwards of 100 law students.  

 

 

Employers participating in the interviews will include small, medium and large firms; corporate law departments; and public interest, nonprofit and government entities.  The conference is sponsored by Twin Cities Diversity in Practice but is a unique opportunity to interview with both private law firms and local government employers as well.  During lunch, students enjoy a discussion on key issues relevant to their job search and building a successful career.

Northwest Minority Job Fair

Description: The Northwest Minority Job Fair, sponsored and funded by a consortium of legal sector employers, is an excellent place to begin.  For 29 years, this event has brought together private and public law firms committed to promoting diversity by providing a unique opportunity for employers, law students and lawyers to match legal talent with needs. Last year’s Northwest Minority Job Fair brought together approximately 120 students and 31 law firms/agencies. Registration is free for students, and all expenses are paid by the participating employers. 

 Rocky Mountain Diversity Legal Career Fair

Description: The Rocky Mountain Diversity Legal Career Fair provides an excellent forum for legal employers, law students and law school graduates to meet and discuss employment options with the goal of expanding opportunities and assisting the legal profession in fulfilling its commitment to diversity. Legal employers attending the RMDLCF seek to hire law students and graduates from diverse backgrounds that have been traditionally under-represented in the practice of law in the Rocky Mountain region. These include law students and graduates who are ethnic or racial minorities, disabled, and/or gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.  

Law students and recent law school graduates are invited to register and attend the RMDLCF and to apply for twenty-minute scheduled interviews with participating employers. Candidates may also have the opportunity to informally talk with employers at their exhibitor tables.

 San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association (SFIPLA) Bay Area Job Fair

Description: All accredited law schools in California, and others throughout the country, will be invited to participate in the SFIPLA Job Fair. Rising 2L and 3L students will be provided with a list of participating employers and asked to designate the employers with whom they would like to interview. Employers will then have an opportunity to review the resumes of interested students and select the candidates to interview.

 St. Louis Diversity Job Fair

Description: We are pleased to invite your students to participate in the 2017 St. Louis Diversity Job Fair ("SLDJF") this summer. We are inviting J.D. students in the classes of 2018 and 2019 to participate.

The Job Fair will kick-off with small group student attorney networking dinners on Friday, August 18, beginning at 5:30 p.m. (locations to be announced) and interviews will be held Saturday, August 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Husch Blackwell law offices, The Plaza in Clayton, 190 Carondelet Plaza, Suite 600, St Louis, MO 63105. Specific details re both events will be posted on the St. Louis Diversity Job Fair web site at www.stldiversityjobfair.com and through Simplicity as they become available (as of today, due to some issues with the website developer, only Simplicity has been updated).

The deadline for law student registration is Friday, June 30, 2017 at midnight (CST); absolutely no extensions will be allowed. All students must be registered by this date in order to participate in the Job Fair. Law students can register for the 2017 St. Louis Diversity Job Fair by going to https://law-sldjf-csm.symplicity.com/. When registering, we require that students provide the name of a contact in the school's Career Services office that will be available to assist with coordinating the student participation in the Job Fair. Please let your students know who the law school representative will be and their contact information so they may properly complete registration.

Documentation needed to register for the Job Fair:

1.   Law student resume

2.   Law school transcript (unofficial is ok)

3.   One page cover letter

3.  Writing sample (may submit an abbreviated version, less than 10 pages preferred)

Please also inform students that it may take up to one business day to get their initial registration approved. They should not submit a second registration and/or contact the Career Services Office for assistance if they have not allowed the Job Fair administrator enough time to review the initial registration materials. The same request for patience applies for resume and additional documents approval.

The St. Louis Diversity Job Fair offers full or partial financial stipends to students who would be unable to attend the Job Fair without the financial assistance. The number and amount of stipends awarded is contingent on requests received and funds available. Please instruct students who need financial assistance to contact Danielle Carr at daniellecarr@polsinelli.com. The deadline for submitting the financial stipend application is Friday, July 1, at midnight (CST).
